October 9, 2002 NYC Club Favorite GlobeSonic Presides over MASS MoCA Halloween Celebration(North Adams, Mass.) The disco ball is hung and the musical arsenal is ready to blow up MASS MoCA's dance floor at the Halloween Dance Party with GlobeSonic on Thursday, October 31, at 8:00 P.M. Focusing on world music, GlobeSonic is an international dreamscape, weaving the music of the ancients with a modern sensibility, reaching into the past to create the future. This collection of talented international DJs is a favorite on the New York City club scene, and they play multi-phonic world music from Asian Massive to Arab Electronica to Brazillian Jungle and beyond. "A smartly fashioned global journey," according to Billboard magazine, which goes on to call GlobeSonic's parties "revered." Three of the DJs from the GlobeSonic collective, Sultan32, Acidophilus, and Addis Pace, as well as a yet-to-be announced VJ, will be spinning in North Adams. Sultan32 (Fabian Alsultany) is the founder of GlobeSonic. Emblematic of GlobeSonic itself, he is a first-generation American born to Arabic and Latino parents. "We are really thrilled to present GlobeSonic. These are DJs that you'd see in the best clubs in New York and L.A. and they'll be right here in North Adams for Halloween," commented Jonathan Secor, director of performing arts at MASS MoCA. GlobeSonic DJs focus on a variety of world dance music which combines traditional and contemporary music spanning the globe with uniquely American grooves; everything from disco, house, pop, R&B, electronica, and trance - resulting in a melting pot of music. GlobeSonic established a following and devotion through its initial year-long residency at Paisley and subsequent residencies at Joe's Pub and Groovejet. They now have monthly parties at SOB which are the talk of the New York dance scene, and beginning in October will have similar monthly parties in Miami. The DJ collective has been on the road promoting this musical aesthetic at clubs, festivals and special events domestically and internationally. They have performed everywhere from BAMCafe to the Lincoln Center to the Pyramids of Giza. Recently they have been invited as a showcasing artist at the prestigious WOMEX world music conference in Essen, Germany. They have performed across the U.S. including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago; and internationally at Berlin's House of World Culture, Paris' Ethnotech, Beirut's Strange Fruit Megaclub, Vancouver's Alibi Room, Recife Brasil's Abril Pro Rock festival, and Amsterdam's Boom Bar. They have performed a wide variety of prestigious venues including the Hammerstein Ballroom, Celebrate Brooklyn, Makor, Bowery Ballroom, Global Rotation at Shine, Halcyon, Open Air, Galapagos, and shared bills with such artists as Transglobal Underground, Zuco 103, The Gipsy Kings, Karsh Kale, Antibalas, Tabla Beat Science, Aterciopelados, and Cheb I Sabbah.
