Stand-Up Comic Skewers Politics at MASS MoCA

(North Adams, Mass.) Fresh from a two-season stint with 60 Minutes II and as a regular contributor for MSNBC, political satirist Jimmy Tingle will light up MASS MoCA's stage, taking on government policies and politicians with his special sharp-edged wit. The performance is Friday, October 3, at 8 P.M. Tingle's scathing reports are known for their hilarity as well as their insight. According to The Boston Globe, "If Robert De Niro had decided to be a comedian, he might have come out something like Tingle, with his off-center smile, blue-collar physicality and exquisite sense of timing."

Jimmy Tingle will create a new show with brand new material just for his performance at MASS MoCA. Not one to shy away from large and controversial issues, he'll cover politics, God, and more. Tingle's first one-man show Jimmy Tingle's Uncommon Sense, The Education of an American Comic received stellar reviews during a 9-week engagement at American Place Theater in New York City and went on to become the longest running one-person show at Hasty Pudding Theater in Cambridge, Mass. The show then moved to Coast Playhouse in Los Angeles where it was nominated by The L.A. Weekly for Best Male Solo Performance for its 20th Annual Theater Awards.

A native of Cambridge, Mass., Jimmy Tingle has appeared on The Tonight Show, Larry King Weekend, The Late Show with Conan O'Brien, The Late Show with Tom Snyder, and The American Comedy Awards, and has had his own HBO comedy special. He starred in the Emmy Award-winning documentary on art censorship, Damned in the USA. Tingle co-starred in the PBS Travels series special America with the Top Down and appeared in Showtime documentaries featuring prominent social satirists But Seriously and But Seriously '94. Tingle's extensive film credits include Chris Rock's Head Of State.

MASS MoCA's Alternative Cabaret series is held in Club B-10 and is co-sponsored by the Valley Advocate and Barrington Brewery.

Lickety Split will be open to serve dinner and snacks starting at 7:00 P.M. when the doors open. There will also be a full bar.

Tickets to Jimmy Tingle are $12 in advance or $15 the day of the show. MASS MoCA members get 10% off.
