Faux-French Dance Party at MASS MoCA June 25

(North Adams, Mass.) They dress French. They sing in French. They even speak with French accents, but they're from Brooklyn. Les Sans Culottes (or those without underwear) will perform a Faux-French Dance Party at MASS MoCA on Friday, June 25, at 7:30 P.M. "Despite the air of joie de vivre, these bons vivants take their music seriously," according to San Francisco Weekly.

Les Sans Culottes' live shows have "Earned a reputation for excessively fabulous performances and intoxicatingly catchy pop music in the mold of Serge Gainsbourg and Jacques Dutronc," according to New York Daily News. Fresh off the release of their second album, Fixation Orale, this septuplet will bring their particular brand of French culture to North Adams. Their sound has been described as eerily close to 1960s ye-ye French Pop.

Although one band member hails from Paris (chanteuse Celine Dijon), the others come from far and wide including Detroit (lead singer Clermont Ferrand), San Francisco (keyboardist Mars Cheverolet), New Jersey (chanteuse Kit Kat Le Noir), Denver (bassist/guitarist Jean Luc Retard), La Jolla (guitarist Calvino "Cal Damage" Dimaggio), and Pittsburgh (drummer Harry Corvert). Les Sans Culottes borrowed their name from the ill-clad, long trousered citizen soldiers of the French Revolution. The group met while attending the Rhode Island School of Design and bonded over their mutual love of French Pop.

Tickets for Faux-French Dance Party with Les Sans Culottes are $13 in advance, $16 the day of the show, $10 for students with I.D., and $6 for kids. MASS MoCA members receive a 10% discount. Tickets are available through the MASS MoCA Box Office located off Marshall Street in North Adams from 11 A.M. until 5 P.M. (closed Tuesdays). A free post-concert jam will take place at Joga, located on 23 Eagle Street, North Adams, MA (413.664.0126).

MASS MoCA, the largest center for contemporary visual and performing arts in the United States, is located off Marshall St. in North Adams on a 13-acre campus of renovated 19th-century factory buildings.
