April in Paris at MASS MoCA

(North Adams, Mass.) Kids will recreate the world's most romantic city, Paris, in MASS MoCA's B10 Theater on Saturday, April 27, at 11:00 A.M. with the help of painter/printmaker Laurie Cearley. Kids of all ages will paint large cutouts of the best-known Parisian landmarks and then place their three- and four-foot tall buildings throughout the theater, adding roads, rivers, and parks in between. Kids should come dressed appropriately for large-scale arts and crafts. The event is free with museum admission, but advance reservations are required and space is limited.

April in Paris for kids is part of MASS MoCA's Parisian weekend which also features a Parisian Cabaret Dance Party with Paris Combo on Friday, April 26, at 8:00 PM. Fronted by chanteuse extraordinaire Belle du Barry, Paris Combo fuses the chanson music from France with blues, swing, jazz, and flamenco.

Laurie Cearley is a painter, printmaker, and chef, and is part of the performing arts programming team at MASS MoCA. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and printmaking. Working with a children's art workshop in the highlands of Chiapas, Mexico, she has curated children's sculpture, mural exhibits, and exchanges in Mexico City, Puebla, San Francisco, and Italy. She recently developed an international mural exchange to promote literacy and further global exchange. She has exhibited her work in San Francisco, Chicago, and Scotland. She is a family programs curator at Symphony Space and participated in the development of Philip on Film.

Admission for April in Paris is free with museum admission. Museum admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, $2 for kids between six and sixteen, and free for children under six. Admission is free for members. Space is limited, so advanced reservations are required (even for members and children under six).
