ALLOY, MATEYS! Perennial MASS MoCA favorite and pre-eminent silent film accompanist, Alloy Orchestra, performs a live score to this Douglas Fairbanks classic. The first movie ever shot in two-tone Technicolor, The Black Pirate is one of the most swashbuckling-ly gorgeous films of the silent era. The zany antics and erratic style are echoed through Alloy Orchestra’s inventive musical anachronisms.
Alloy Orchestra's Ken Winokur offers behind-the-score insights into a number of the brilliantly strange silent films they brought to MASS MoCA last year.
Watch a clip of the original film here. The Technicolor is amazing to see but it can't compete with what we'll hear in the Alloy's original score!
