Bettye LaVette

Saturday, July 6, 2013 8pm
Courtyard C or Hunter Center
$55 priority / $32 GA advance / $39 GA day of

JAMES TAYLOR LOVES HER VOICE. SO DO WE. Bettye LaVette has one of the most singular sounds in R&B. For over forty years, she has been recording songs you will instantly recognize, yet it’s taken four decades for this Detroit-bred legend to receive the acclaim she deserves. LaVette’s velvet-rich voice and gospel-based blues have earned the admiration of no less than Paul McCartney, Keith Richards, and Bonnie Raitt, while James Taylor says “Bettye LaVette’s voice is an authentic beacon in a world of artifice.” We only wish we’d found her sooner.

Watch her bring down the house at the Kennedy Center as she performs Love Reign O'er Me to the delight of The Who's Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend.

And listen to Everything is Broken, from her recent album, Thankful n' Thoughtful.

Sponsored by the Hans and Kate Morris Fund for New Music.
