Centered on movement, story, and sound,
and housed within a light/sound installation
of handmade, functional fish-skin lanterns,
Niicugni equates the land we live on with the
cells that comprise our bodies. During her
residency Johnson will work on this piece
with fellow performer Aretha Aoki, then
present this work-in-progress showing.
The sound is composed and performed
by multi-instrumentalist James Everest and violinist/electronic musician Bethany
Lacktorin. Lighting design by Heidi Eckwall.
“Fresh and fierce, evocative and disciplined.” -Dance Magazine
