On MASS MoCA's ground floor, sculptural works by American artists Carl Andre, Dan Flavin, and John Chamberlain that range from 1950's Expressionism to Minimalism and the light and space movement of the 1960s and 1970s. On view were Flavin's Untitled (To Don Judd, Colorist), Andre's 2 x 18 Aluminum Lock, and Chamberlain's Dooms Day Flotilla.
The naturalistic, narrative-imbued works of European artists Joseph Beuys and Mario Merz were installed on the second floor, juxtaposed to the more abstract American works in the galleries below.
