Since developing and performing a piece using the Überorgan, in the winter of 2001 at MASS MoCA, musician, theater artist, and Guggenheim Fellow Cynthia Hopkins has returned many times for residencies and to premier work. Hopkins’ latest work is a tender tribute to her father, a former school teacher whiling away the time in a New Hampshire nursing home. The Truth: A Tragedy distills her singular aesthetic embracing pathos from a sly remove to create a piece of theater that is at once funny, sad, and utterly riveting. Gothamist calls it “at turns raw and bitterly funny, as serious as a heart attack while slipping on a banana peel.”
