"The tunes Pyar Karne Wale and Raat Bahkee may not be as familiar as Ring My Bell or Rock the Boat but these tracks sure get things shakin’ at [DJ Rekha’s parties]." — Time Out NY

Bollywood Disco Dance Party Caps Off the Day
DJ Rekha’s monthly Basement Bhangra at SOB’s in New York City are cult parties called variously “a Mecca for the rapidly growing number of Asian hip-hop fanatics” and “New York’s most popular South Asian party.” The line that snakes around the block demonstrates that Rekha knows how to throw a party like no other. According to Ego Magazine, “It is the only place where you’re likely to find Indian immigrants, American Sikhs, Connecticut gentry, and Pakistani preppy bankers, all dancing to the contagious beat of bhangra. Who would have thought that Punjabi folk music could be so popular in downtown Manhattan?” North Adams residents will be able to hear this astonishing DJ in their own backyard as Rekha travels to North Adams on February 9 for an evening of hip-shaking traditional Bhangra music of South Asia mixed with modern-day hip-hop beats. NPR says, “Critically acclaimed DJ Rekha crafts a sound all her own.”Her highly anticipated debut album DJ Rekha Presents Basement Bhangra has just been released.
Doors to the dance party will open at 7 P.M. for those who would like to grab a good table. Beverage and bar service will be open at that time, and Lickety Split will offer a range of dinner selections. Dance instruction, arranged by Jacob’s Pillow, will begin at 8 PM for those who want to learn the latest moves.
