South African composer Philip Miller (last heard at MASS MoCA as William Kentridge\\\'s collaborator in June 2005) comes to North Adams for a residency, hosted with major support from Williams College. REwind - A Cantata is inspired by and based on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission proceedings, which broke South Africa from its apartheid past and ushered in it\\\'s democratic present. The piece incorporates audio recordings taken directly from the TRC hearings -- testimony from victims of apartheid atrocities and their lawyers as well as the torturers, soldiers, and government officials on trial. Through this testimony the collective memory of South Africans was built. The residency culminates in a work-in-progress showing featuring South Africa\\\'s Sontonga Quartet and Williams College choral students. REwind - A Cantata will debut in December 2006 at St. George\\\'s Cathedral, Archbishop Desmond Tutu\\\'s church in Cape Town, and will make its American premier in Spring 2007 at Williams College in a co-presentation by MASS MoCA, Williams College, and the Celebrate Brooklyn festival.
